Custom Gourds and Gourd Handbags by Booker Preston
Booker Preston began carving gourds several years ago after attending a Gourd Fair in Fallbrook, CA.
Booker is a semi-retired podiatrist who now spends his free time carving amazing custom gourds and making custom handbags from them. He uses the high-speed drill to create his award-winning gourds.
Booker’s work has appeared in juried art shows in Southern California, Arizona, and Utah and he has also done commissioned art work.
Booker has just been featured in the Orange County News and is going to attend the Art-A-Fair this summer.

In His Grip, Nanette Bartet
Gourd Art Carving by Nanette Bartet
It amazes me how much talent there is among our network. If this is Nanette’s 2nd gourd, can you just imagine what her 10th or her 20th is going to look like? Wow I can’t wait.Gourd Art – Designs and Decoration
Gourd Art – Designs and Decoration
Gourd art is quickly becoming a popular favorite amongst many in our artists network.
Marilyn Sunderland put on a great presentation on gourd art designs and decoration last night as part of Profitable Hobbies Free Webinar Series.
During the presentation, Marilyn Sunderland went through all the necessary steps to add design, colors and special touches to turn any ordinary gourd into a work of art to be admired by all. She uses both engraving systems, electric and high speed to get the effects she desires, and save time in the process.
The electric engraving systems are great for cutting out and removing larger amounts of material, while the high speed engraving systems are used to produce unmatched detail in the artwork. Marilyn proceeds to add color and personality with various stains and paints.
“Is that really a Gourd? Like, out of the Garden?” – If I had a dime for everytime our members have heard that over the years.
“Yep, just an ordinary Gourd from the garden, with an artists touch.”
Many of last night’s attendees to the free webinar were shocked when Marilyn mentioned that some of her gourd art is priced up to $5000 each. Though it shouldn’t be a big surprise to anyone that has seen her gourd designs.
Keep up the great work Marilyn, we look forward to seeing more unbelievable gourd designs from you in the near future.
The recording of the presentation is now available inside The I&E Network for members to view at your convenience.
