Power Carving – How to Market Your Hobby

Power Carving – How to Market Your Hobby

Tom Jones sent in this testimonial from our November Basic Engraving and Marketing course taught by Dr. Lew Jensen.

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the class in November and meeting all the fine people with your organization. The fact that so many talented artists would spend so much time with us beginners just amazed me and made me feel something special. Up until then I really had no idea how truly great these people were and how they would affect my attitude and motivation.

Since that class I don’t think I’ve missed more then one or two days engraving because I learned so much there after hitting a plateau on my own. I would highly recommend this to anyone who invests the money for the system because I would probably never had considered working with anything other then wood but now see the potential with so many other substrates. It is endless where one can go so I thank you for making sure I got involved and, if anyone has questions about this class, have them call me.

It was probably the greatest week of my life and I met some of the finest people I have ever known.

Thanks again,

Tom Jones”

Thanks for the kind words Tom, we are glad that you enjoyed the class.

We find this situation a lot in our students. They buy the equipment, start to practice at home with the dvd training and a lot of them do great. However, some of them reach a point where they want to take it to the next level. In order to do this, often they need someone to open their eyes to bigger possibilities. Attending a training class is a great way to meet other artists, get tips, learn new techniques and see in person what is possible to do with high speed engraving. Sometimes it is the little things that make the most difference. You can learn so much in a single conversation with Jeff Wolf, Craig Hone, Keith Hone, Dr. Lew Jensen – or any of the masters.

Dr. Lew has been teaching this hobby marketing class for over 20 years. It is designed to give you some experience engraving an many different surface, including wood, eggs, metal and glass. Students leave the class with actual sample projects to show to their prospective clients. Dr. Lew also covers many marketing aspects to help actually make money with your hobby.

As an added bonus, Dr. Lew teaches a micro-sandblasting class on the Saturday following the engraving course. This opens up another whole new world for most.

Thanks again Tom for the great testimonial, keep up the good work.

Gourd Art – Designs and Decoration

Gourd Art – Designs and Decoration

Gourd Art and DesignsGourd art is quickly becoming a popular favorite amongst many in our artists network.

Marilyn Sunderland put on a great presentation on gourd art designs and decoration last night as part of Profitable Hobbies Free Webinar Series.

During the presentation, Marilyn Sunderland went through all the necessary steps to add design, colors and special touches to turn any ordinary gourd into a work of art to be admired by all. She uses both engraving systems, electric and high speed to get the effects she desires, and save time in the process.

Gourd Design ImageThe electric engraving systems are great for cutting out and removing larger amounts of material, while the high speed engraving systems are used to produce unmatched detail in the artwork. Marilyn proceeds to add color and personality with various stains and paints.

“Is that really a Gourd? Like, out of the Garden?” – If I had a dime for everytime our members have heard that over the years.

“Yep, just an ordinary Gourd from the garden, with an artists touch.”

Many of last night’s attendees to the free webinar were shocked when Marilyn mentioned that some of her gourd art is priced up to $5000 each. Though it shouldn’t be a big surprise to anyone that has seen her gourd designs.

Keep up the great work Marilyn, we look forward to seeing more unbelievable gourd designs from you in the near future.

The recording of the presentation is now available inside The I&E Network for members to view at your convenience.

Basic Glass Engraving Tips and Techniques

Glass Engraving TechniquesTamaree held a webinar last night that covered all you ever wanted to know about Basic Glass Engraving Tips and Techniques. She started with the basics such as where to get patterns, where to buy glass, how to layout the design etc.

She then moved on to how to place the stencil pattern on the glass, getting it to lay down correctly.

Using high speed engraving equipment, she then traced the pattern onto the glass using a diamond engraving bur, right through the stencil pattern.Cutting out a Stencil Pattern
